As has been explained in this thread already, the setting is supposed to suppress the sound notification and not to hide the chat telegram creates when one of your contacts joins Telegram As long as the mobile clients will continue to behave like that, I'm afraid tdesktop will not be able to change this behavior just because people complain here.

For removing the members from your telegram group, you need to follow these following steps β. Tap on the group name. Now, tap on the pencil icon. Now, Go to β Members β.
